  • how is your recovery going from that illness you mentioned a bit ago

I’m doing much better than i was, anon, thank you for asking.  I had bronchitis that kept me from speaking, and thereby working, for a week.  Though I still have a cough that has limited my vocal range and keeps me from singing, I can enunciate enough to work again.

  • Never tell a DC fan that Quicksilver is faster than the Flash only when the Flash is outside of the DC universe and doesn’t have access to the Speed Force.  Even if it’s canon, you’re wrong apparently.

It always bugs me when people harp on Marvel movies as being sexist because there aren’t nearly as many female characters, and those that are there are usually foils or romantic interests for the male lead.  That being said, there are still a fair few women in Marvel movies, and while they are often romantically engaged with the male hero, they are also depicted with their own lives, passions, jobs, and goals outside of being the girlfriend of a superhero.  They are their own characters who force the male superhero to grow and change, while doing the same themselves.

DC is every bit as bad about including women in their movies, and fair bit worse at making them characters outside of romance.  In part this is due to there being fewer modern DC movies, but there’s also the issue that the characters themselves aren’t really there outside of being a romantic lead.  The best example against this is Lois Lane in Man of Steel, who’s actually somewhat active for a little bit before being relegated to the typical damsel-in-distress role and chasing after Superman for the bulk of the film.

Both companies need to work on incorporating dynamic female characters into their respective movies.  At the moment though I think Marvel’s got a hell of a lead and has been doing it a lot better for quite some time.

Because they have only got one movie, they are making a Wonder Woman film…. And have a super girl show and potentially The robin in Batman v superman will be Stephanie brown

DC only has one film in their current universe, but they’ve been making films for a while.  How good were the female characters in the Nolan Batman trilogy?  The past Superman films?  The films that we dare not speak of?

The Supergirl show has potential, and would be a good change of pace, but there’s a fair bit riding against in, not the least of which is that DC is splitting their stuff up heavily instead of working to make an overall universe.  That won’t be helped by Wonderwoman either.  It’s great that she’s FINALLY getting a movie, but guess how else is?  Captain Marvel who is a woman and will be a woman in the film.

As for the Stephanie Brown as Robin, it is possible and would be great but given the tone and placement of BvS I doubt it.  The only hints towards it right now are that Snyder is taking inspiration from Dark Knight Returns and that in the trailer there was a fraction of a yellow cape shown out of focus over the shoulder in one second of the trailer.

  • Ways the Time Spent Developing the Bruce/Natasha romance could have been better spent…….

    mystiqueer:

    1. Explaining why Tony rebuilt his suits.

    2. Explaining why the Avengers are now working together.

    3. Explaining why Steve isn’t still looking for Bucky.

    4. Giving Falcon more than a minute of screen time.

    5. Developing the father-daughter thing they had going with Fury and Nat.

    6. Showing Steve and Tony actually building up a friendship so Civil War will at least have a smidgen of emotional impact.

    7. Spending more than a minute on why Tony and Bruce thought Ultron was a good idea (and why they have apparently never seen a sci-fi movie)

    8. Having Tony get to talk to the Vision about Jarvis.

    9. Vision/Scarlet Witch

    10. A Natasha backstory going into her being forced to kill as a child/losing her identity, anything but “I can’t have babies so I’m a monster!”

    11. Explaining the media reaction to all this. (We hear they want Bruce arrested, but how do the people feel about the Avengers working without Shield? How is the world responding without Shield?

    12. Natasha picking up Mjolnir (don’t tease it and not carry through, Joss).

    13. Basically, any scene showing any continuity with Phase 2.

    14. Who am I kidding? Basically any other scene. A training sequence. 20 minutes of Falcon baking cookies. An explanation of how Hulk’s pants work. An hour of all of them playing with Clint’s kids. Anything would have been better.

I’m down for the 20 minutes of Falcon baking cookies suggestion, personally.

You know Sam doesn’t stint on the chocolate chips.

an explanation of how Hulk’s pants work
    yes

So, 1. Tony’s need to set things right overriding the promises he’s made that moved him to make one suit and Jarvis controlled robots?

    2. Routing the remains of HYDRA and wrapping up the hunt for Loki’s scepter?

    3. Fair point, but Cap rarely has a one track mind.

    4.  Fair, though he didn’t have much to add in and explicitly said as much.

    5.  Not blatant, but still present

    6.  A relationship is about compromise and struggle, not just hugs and kisses.  Tony and Steve butt heads a lot in AoU, and ended up being closer than at the beginning.  Just look at their interactions at the end.

    7.  Iron Man 3 + Banner’s preference for calm

    8.  Again, this happened.  Not as much as it could have, but it happened.

    9.  Fair.

    10.  Nat doesn’t call herself a monster because she can’t have children.  She calls herself a monster for the very reason listed; she was made to kill without remorse or care.  Sterilization was a graduation, but that’s not what made her a monster, her acceptance of the nature of her work is.

    11. SHIELD was not public knowledge.  If you want reactions to the Avengers watch Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Avengers, AoU, it’s all there but not at the forefront.  Those that are directly helped are grateful, those on the sidelines are generally pissed.

    12.  Would have been a nice gag, but not necessary.  It wouldn’t have added anything to her character and given her history both shown and implied would not have made sense.

    13.  Were we watching the same movie?  There are connections to Cap 2, Thor 2, Ironman 3, Guardians, Agents of SHIELD, as well as hints towards Black Panther and other upcoming films.

    14.  Blooper reel please.

The romance between Bruce and Nat wasn’t necessary, I’ll agree with that.  It wasn’t without purpose though.  It gave both characters room to grow and experience something that has traditionally been denied to them.  It could have been done better, or avoided entirely, but it shouldn’t just be tossed aside because it’s a romance.

No fun is allowed for the little grump princess. She’ll find happiness and woo-hooing some day though.

    • #Cattlejack said that it wasn't the milk that changed her
    • #why has no one asked what it was that made her a cowpony?
  • Pros of cowpones: Greater natural strength and endurance than earth ponies, ability to use magic with a channeling source.

Cons of cowpones: Less dexterity than other ponies, less access to magic than unicorns, lesser earth affinity magic (harder to encourage crops to grow)

Everyone seems to want Raricow to return to notmal, and I’m just over here asking why?

I asked cause I want AJ to go back to normal. It’s just so… weird.

How’s Cattlejack weird if Raricow isn’t?  The idea that AJ would let herself be changed to help Rarity feel more comfortable, and to be closer to someone who is more than a friend is a sweet gesture, and one that I can see AJ doing.  It is a little strange, I’ll grant you, but it’s fitting with the character, and it’s fun to draw.

What I mean is that the entire blog up to now has been pony AJ. The transition is just a little hard to get used to.

That’s understandable, but change is a necessity in any blog, and in any relationship.  If AJ were to have remained the same way that she was at the outset of the blog then it wouldn’t be as interesting to follow, or create.  Rarity’s changed since the blog started too.

They all party poopers. Maybe if Raricow dressed in fancy Appleoosa clothes, they’d give you a break

Raricow gussied up in western attire and Cattlejack dressed as a southern belle?  I like this idea..
