Why Snape’s Tragic Back Story Isn’t So Tragic

    [By julialepetit and andrewbridgman]

    THIS.

Just want to remind everyone that Snape was abused as a child. He found a friend in Lily because she was like him. A magician. Then at school, he faces the same abuse by James and his asinine gang. So of course when shining prefect and star pupil Tom Riddle shows Snape kindness, Snape begins to adopt his view points. Tom was a sociopath, a person incapable of empathy or love. He could easily manipulate people with low self esteem. And to add into the mix, the one other person who was ever nice to Snape, ends up dating his abuser. Snape was not a “nice guy.” He was a poor abused child who fell under the sway of a charismatic nut job.

Just want to remind everyone that while Snape may have been abused as a child, so too were Sirius by his family, and Remus by his peers.  Snape was abused and found a friend in Liiy, but he also hurt her sister before Hogwarts, and while being defended from the Marauders by Lily referred to her as a derogatory slur because she had drifted apart after years of mingling and mixing with people other than Snape.  Even if Snape was a guiltless abused little boy, that doesn’t excuse the behavior he exhibits as a teacher seeking redemption for past deeds.  It doesn’t help matters that all the scenes regarding Snape’s past are told from his memories with his bias and still don’t excuse his actions.

Pssst…Notice how the adults are in their own circle and enjoying themselves while there’s what looks like another pool in the corner, and that the kids don’t look upset so much as curious and confused?  It really is a visual metaphor for my little pony, and many other cartoons.

  • I didn’t think it was possible, but the teaser trailer for Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice has made me even more sure that the movie isn’t going to be good.

“Modern gaming is so toxic and lazy!  The Order: 1886 is just a 6 hour shooter that’s mostly cutscenes!  Too many games are charging for DLC that should have been in game!”

Pokemon Snap, a beloved game from the N64 was a 2 hour rail shooter that required either a special printer, or multiple trips to a participating Blockbuster just to view the pictures that you took.  Dollar for dollar, it was also more expensive to purchase, and cheaper to make, than most modern console/on-disc games.

How long is it without the cutscenes?

My playthrough of The Order: 1886 took about 8 hours, though others have blitzed through it in about 5.  There was maybe 90 minutes-2 hours of cutscenes and quick time events in the game, and it was marketed as being a more cinematic experience rather than a gameplay heavy experience.

pokemon snap was a niche title, and most people nowadays don’t seem to really care about the blockbuster photo thing.

the order 1886 is an insanely boring slogfest that promised a load of things and didn’t deliver through on most if any of them. and do i even need to mention destiny?

The point is that the issues that people complain incessantly about now have been around for a long time, it’s just that the complaints are more vocal and accessible now.

As for The Order: 1886, it delivered what it promised, at least from every pre-release footage and interviews that I saw.  It didn’t promise to revolutionize anything, but to be an experience, and it was.  It wasn’t an incredible experience, but it was what it said it would be, and I enjoyed it enough to fully review the game rather than brush it off.  I did the same with Destiny, which did very little of what it promised, so don’t get me started on that

  • i wouldn't be surprised if teen titan's go was joking with that message. besides, the opposite is kinda silly considering its a tv show.

Seeing as the show has had other episodes that centered on ideas like “Books are dangerous” “Changing your friends is cool” and  “Clothes define your personality” I kind of doubt it.

  • SU lesson: It is important to take pride in your work, and you should respect other’s efforts and not use them in a way that that person doesn’t approve.

TTG! lesson: TV is good for you, and not watching TV turns you into a zombie.
