  • Between the “to join us you must be like us” and lack of cutie marks, I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Starlight Glimmer or anything pertaining to today’s new episode with Papi.

    soulsiphonmlp:

So I watched the new episode of MLP today (no spoilers don’t worry) and it made me sit down and think about everything that was presented in the episode and in the series thus far as a whole. Anyway long story short there’s a topic I would really like to discuss. That being said I’m actually gonna tag a bunch of you in this post because I honestly want to hear someone else offer their perspective and weigh in on this maybe even offer some of your own ideas. (which of course I’d love to hear)

There is most certainly a gap in raw power between unicorns and other nonmagical races, but not an insurmountable one.  As seen with the Hearth’s Warming play, the unicorns were once the group that would raise the sun and moon before Luna and Celestia, but they were still subject to the other races in that they cannot exist in a pure vaccuum, and need help to remain in power.

As far as raw potential goes unicorns do have an advantage due to the flexible nature of canonically displayed magic, but an important thing to remember is that those that can use magic well use it only with YEARS of practice and study.  Earth ponies don’t have this hurdle and can use that time to spread influence, gather followers and become a threat through wiles and power.  Pegasi can use this time to manipulate the weather in their favor, and have a more militaristic history.

It’s not hard to imagine an Earth pony or Pegasus villain, it’s just a matter of figuring out how they come into power or pose a threat.  Earth ponies are social and physically powerful with a greater ability to manipulate their landscape and so can more effectively limit food supplies, control land routes and generally physically bully other races, but they must act with tact and wit rather than sheer brute force.  Pegasi can alter the weather as their needs dictate, be that to attack or to hold siege over an area, and can potentially do it with small, directed numbers or even with a single individual (talents allowing).

It’s not a matter of unicorns being more powerful and being villains, it’s a matter of having the unicorns elasticity in ability making it simpler to portray them as villains.  There’s less to explain when you have the excuse of “I have magic” up front, but there’s still the aspect of time with the study required, as Starlight mentions.  It’s all a matter of how things are explained for the audience and how things are presented.  All races are viable as antagonists, unicorns are just easier to set up.

  • hey did I tell you about that one SU theory that rose might actually be former gem royalty/a diamond? I just saw a post that pointed out that something in support of that theory would be the outfit pearl wore during the episode she and steven were building a spaceship, which had a pink colored diamond shape over her chest, basically in the same place as the yellow diamonds on jasper and peridot's outfits

    dragon-bunz:

that post has been on my dash a couple times, the more i see, the more i totally support it

When you take that theory into consideration, Pearl being overprotective of Steven takes on a new layer of meaning, as Steven is effectively a Gem prince and Pearl was a royal retainer.

  • I’m pleasantly surprised at how many people are interested in commissioning their characters to show up in Fleur de Lait updates/trying special ice creams.  I have no problems including friends in blog updates, but obviously I can’t include every person that asks.  I have no problem taking commissions to draw someone’s character in my own stuff, or in general.

  • ask-keystar said: we are curious how much thou art asking for the ice cream. I can’t affored anything yet since me bday is this month and a con next but something to see about when I can. thanks and keep up the good work and stay safe~

Answering here to keep from cluttering Papi with too much non-Papi stuff, and to let others see.

With the ice cream/Fleur de Lait related commissions pricing would be equivalent to that which I use for Bits for Bovines.  $12 for single panels that are fully colored and shaded, with prices negotiable (but closer to $10 per panel) for sequences.  For instance, the Butterscotch -> dragon would have been around $40.

All the shows Uncle Grandpa has been to.

And only one of those is still aired on Cartoon Network….and that one rarely.

  • what is uncle grandpa even about i saw an ad for it and it looked like a drug trip

That’s pretty much it.  Uncle Grandpa’s premise is that a reality bending spirit of incestuous chaos helps random children with random problems, most often by forcing them through off the wall, traumatic situations that never seem to bother anyone, with the help of a narcissistic piece of pizza, a random dinosaur man, and a virtually non-animated picture of a tiger that flies by farting rainbows.

    It hurts to watch.
