  • Written anything new recently?
    ask-paradigm

Aside from blog stuff and the occasional rant/breakdown of an issue no.  I need to go back and get into writing again.

  • Do you have any conventions in plan?
    ask-paradigm

Not right now, no.  I’ve never been to a convention before and I’m not aware of any nearby save for Midwest Bronyfest around May.

  • Let me know how the Order is, really interested in it but kind of on the fence...
    thecherrycordial

Sure thing!  I’m of the mindset that the experience of the game or the story is more indicative of value than raw game time.  A large part of that is from me being really critical of stories and form and not having nearly as much time to play a game as before.  I’d rather have a great experience that might be short than have a long experience that bores me (Destiny)

  • Excited for any of the new games coming out?
    umbreow

Despite the complaints against the projected time (one streamer who got the game early finished it in 5 hours, but it’s being estimated at 10-12 hours for a full playthrough at a decent pace) I’m excited for The Order: 1886.  I love werewolves, and Victorian London, so that’s a great mix.

I’m also looking forward to Witcher 3 because of the setting and lore in it, though I’ve not played Witcher 1 and haven’t finished Witcher 2.

Also Borderlands: The Handsome Collection because BORDERLANDS!!

  • How are you doing?
    ask-paradigm

I’m doing well.  My new job’s working out so far and the pay is definitely an improvement.  I’m unfortunately still living at home because I’m a lazy shit, but my parents have not been nearly as vocal against me.

He truly was….. the Coolest Guy

you’ll see animation like this once a year

meanwhile one piece animation is garbage

Oh yeah. One Piece only has better characters, arcs, and humor. But eh who cares about actual quality writing when you can have pretty pictures.

but imagine one piece with this quality in their fights. God, why can that happen?

One Piece has more characters, definitely, but most of them are filler and those that aren’t are middling to poor more often than not.  The arcs in One Piece are often good, but there’s not as much of a story arc as was in Naruto.  I’ll grant the humor, but the better characters and arcs are really subjective, especially as One Piece continues to drag on with no discernible ending in sight.

The point is, the animation is clearly better here than most anywhere in One Piece.  Meanwhile the aspects that actually make a series good outside of aesthetic are largely subjective.

they aren’t sell out trying kill gamer’s critical thinking
    not at all

Remember when that stuff was included in the game but you had to unlock it?

Remember when you use to buy a game and it was the whole game?

Remember when you put a cheat-code to change the look of your character?

Remember when games weren’t buggy, pre-released garbage because there was no way to patch them?

I only remember back when my school just got computers that wasn’t DOS and we all got very competitive about beating each others’ solitaire high score…

remember when DLC was called “expansion packs” and actually added more to a game other than the basic ending?

    1.  That still happens with more developers than release a game without an ending and make you pay for it later.
    2.  Remember when a game’s ending was ‘Good for you, now play the game again’ because there was nothing else and no competition to divide your time?

    Remember The Alamo?

Remember when buying one game was pretty much a $90 investment for just the base game that would usually be riddled with bugs and glitches?  Remember having to do the same thing a year or two later for 3 extra stages and 2 characters?
Remember when you had to buy another device to unlock new colors or changes to a character’s appearance, and hope that using it wouldn’t corrupt your game and make it unplayable?

Paying a dollar or less for a single character skin isn’t unheard of, and kind of works the same way as faceplates for phones and other devices.  It doesn’t change the game.  It doesn’t make it easier.  It’s purely aesthetic, and acts as bragging rights.  Don’t want to pay for a skin?  Don’t get it.  Find a skin that you really like, one that makes you want to play a character more?  Awesome!  It’s not free, but it doesn’t change the actual character.

Games are balanced and patched often and without cost to keep them running well, and to keep the developer from having to release a seperate game to answer some problems or squeeze in some new ideas (CAPCOM).  If you really want to go back a few generations to avoid having an option to add more to a game after its launch go ahead, but try not to complain about the games of yesteryear when nostalgia fades.
