Headcannon: changelings are protective as all hell about their young by instinct. a load even detest the idea of replacing children to get love.
This is very true. Changelings are not a common species, and as such are fiercely protective of the next generation. While some hives rely upon outside love to sustain themselves, they are very loathe to leave their young alone to feed, and will instead gather love from outside to feed them later.
It is generally safer and more accepted to take love from within the hive than risk the nymphs and hatchlings through taking love from ponies. -
supplementary headcannon: love between a couple, be they married or not, is the sweetest tasting love, and one of the reasons why replacing loved ones is a rather common tactic by various changelings to get love.
Very true, and why Chrysalis was so well fed by Shining. Intimacy and physical affections serve to refine the love that a changeling may feed from to varying extents.

Headcannon: love can have varying tastes, like how puppy love, like what one would give to a nymph, tastes different then the kind of love one gives to a girlfriend. sometimes the drones will eat various different foods to spice up the taste of the love they get from papi and what they give to papi in return.
A very fun and usable headcanon. I see love varying in taste depending on the giver and the receiver as each individual would feel love differently, and accept love differently.
As for the food changing flavor idea, I love it. -
how do changelings clean their teeth? and is it possible for papi to have a tight mental grip of changelings that could act....dangerous to others if given too much freedom?
If it ever came down to it, Papillon could enthrall one of her subjects with relative ease (moreso than Chrysalis because it would be unexpected). Papillon has different moral guidelines however, and strongly frowns upon the idea.
As for teeth cleaning, while some changelings rely upon the fire they conjure upon changing form to rid themselves of filth and parasites, others prefer to bathe normally, and may scrape their fangs clean upon certain stones. -
Headcannon: warrior changelings can grow up to be rather shrewd diplomats and even sometimes skilled traders. papi's hive is abundant with warriors who tend to be philosophical. in fact, its a running gag that some warriors introduce themselves by going "hm, i wonder what the meaning of life is..." and stroking their chin in a pondering manner.
While that would be interesting, it doesn’t fit with Papi’s canon. Following Papi’s canon, warriors are bred to be obedient and simple in mind, while they are bred to have a lot of muscle mass and much thicker hide. I’d love to see a philosophical warrior changeling, but it doesn’t fit in well Papi’s canon.
That being said, a fair few of the worker changelings could be considered comparable to MENSA grade prodigies, though they are often ignored and keep to themselves and their work. -
Headcannon: chrysalis has a sort of smear campaign going in her own hive around papi. she calls changelings who leave her hive "traitors" and tries to discourage them from leaving by saying that papi's hive is going to fail any day now... of course she focuses more effort into this smear campaign then actually dealing with any of the problems of her hive, which is one of the 32 reasons why all the other hives wanna take turns punching chrysalis.
I can see this happening quite easily, though I don’t see Chrysalis having the resources, or the charisma, to maintain a successful smear campaign. The way I see it, she holds the vast majority of her hive (or what’s left of it) in thrall, they have little to no will of their own. When one manages to break away from that thrall from their own energies and efforts then it would be no small effort to ensnare their mind once more.

Papillion's Hive is amazing. It's spawning a story in my head about a pony who desperately wants to become a Changeling. For that, I need to say thanks. Second, will we ever see exactly how Fleur became Papi, unless I missed it somewhere? Third, will Papi be accepting new applicants anytime soon?
First, thank you!
Second, it has been covered how Fleur became Papillon, namely through chaos magic spurring her change. Within Papi’s canon, chaos magic is the natural order of things, but is suppressed by the order magic used by the sapient races. On occasion when it has been pent up in an area for too long then it can burst outwards causing changes in those nearby.
This was how Fleur, and vaeyla’s Fabulicious became Queens, and could account for other species swap characters and blogs depending on their reasoning.
Third, Papi is always accepting new applicants. There is currently a backlog of applicants that need to be converted, but I’m more than happy to see people make their characters changelings and put them in fanart or the like. -

where did you get the idea to make Papillon?
When I was running the blog Fleur de Lis Replies, which may come back one day, I got a magic anon that turned Fleur into a changeling for 10 posts. After a few posts of that, I came to adore changeling Fleur and my mind was racing with headcanons and ideas for changelings as a whole, and so I ended the M!A prematurely and made a full blog for changeling Fleur, giving her the new name Papillon.
