And everything changed when the Draconequui attacked. Many unusual magical creatures and natural constructs can trace their roots back to burst of chaos magic. The thing about chaos, though, is that it’s fair. It does not judge and it does not act on a sense of ethics or balance, it merely is.
If something bad happens because of a chaotic magic burst, it is the doing of the one who was caught in it, and not necessarily of the magic itself.
True to a point, they can feed off of things other than love, though other emotions are extremely difficult to harness and consume. The adaptation to consume love is not one that has always been with changelings, and has only evolved recently to allow a hive to avoid overconsuming their surroundings. Changelings are omnivorous and can eat most anything. Without a supply of the rapidly renewable love they will eat anything to sate a near constant and endless hunger.
TRUE! Though in Papi’s canon there has never been a changeling allowed to live to such an extent, they are effectively lobsters in that regard. So long as they are fed, and not attacked, a hive could hypothetically continue indefinitely.
This is partially true, at least for Papillon’s canon. Being shapeshifters, and therefore being capable of changing their own anatomy, changelings are genderfluid, adopting the gender of their preference or whichever gender is best suited to a task. Having no reproductive organs, though fitting for the allowance of conversion, does little to encourage the propagation of a species.
Although Papi canon changelings are genderfluid and can choose whichever gender they prefer, only the Queen of a hive has the capacity to produce eggs. As such, she becomes not only the center of the hive’s social structure, but also it’s sole hope for survival in case of emergency, hence the greater size, magic, and protective instincts on both sides of the Queen-Drone relationship.
Though a Queen is the only changeling in a hive who can produce eggs, any female changeling can carry eggs, and so to encourage genetic individuality among the offspring a Queen will often have her drones carry several eggs which will then absorb genetic material from their host, and their fertilizer. This allows for families within the hive, as well as a direct link from all newborns to their Queen.
Just as a Queen is the only changeling who can produce eggs, she is also the only one that cannot produce semen. Two Queens can create an offspring, such as Vespa, by joining two eggs together within one of the Queens. This act is a rarity, and takes considerably more effort than the typical means.
I like this to a point. It is already set that when a changeling dies an echo of their mind lingers within the hive mind and may even haunt the Queen and any others careful enough to listen to it.
The idea that a drone’s every thought, idea, and memory is transferred to the Queen upon their death though, that could cause some severe mental issues if something happens to the hive as a whole. Such an influx of information would be incredibly difficult to deal with, and if more than one or two changelings were to die at once, the burden could be too great for the Queen to bear and effectively ‘break’ her mind for a time.
This is very similar to how it is set in Papi’s hive and canon. There is a hive mind which the Queen uses to keep track of her hive and coordinate them in case of emergency, but it does not interfere with a drone’s individuality or personality unless that is overridden by the Queen to keep the hive in order.
Before getting to the headcanons sent, I just saw the Powerpuff Girls reboot. Personally, I would have preferred it if the series didn’t come back if this was the best they could come up with.
There was not a SINGLE character who was written in character as they were in the original series. The girls would fight before, but over personal things and sibling arguments. Here it was over the most pointless petty things that eliminated virtually all sense of difference or individuality between the three of them. Through most of the special they are effectively interchangeable, something that should not happen to these characters.
The new designs didn’t bother me in still frames, but in motion they’re horrible. Character motion does not flow by any sense of the word, unless you’re talking to a person in the middle of an epileptic seizure from watching it. It is not animation, in many cases, so much as it is a flipbook of the character with several missing frames between every pose. The lighting and color used in the special does not help the animation by any means, instead only aggravating it. In the original show, the lighting was almost always a neutral light allowing the animation to stand out and the characters to cover the story telling. In the special the lighting is heavily present, and at times overbearing. This accentuates the choppy animation and distracts from whatever character is remotely present in these poorly crafted shadows of the originals.
Between the writing, and the animation, this is the first thing I have ever watched that has made me physically nauseous. Other travesties have upset me and insulted their source material more, but never have I had such a physical reaction to a show. May this ‘reboot’ never become anything more than the one time special it is.
I’m bored and have a powerful urge to criticize, judge, critique and share headcanons. Please send in any you have about changelings, Papi’s Hive, or MLP in general and we’ll compare notes.
Here is part one of the drawing thing, will draw others later, hand is hurting ;-;
