original powerpuff girls voice actresses learning about their replacements
Wow. Not cool there ladies. I’m hoping this is mostly out of context. These three women are established voice actors with strong careers and a plethora of parts under their belts (especially Tara Strong who is well known for roles like Harley Quinn). The show is being rebooted for a new audience and potentially with a different slant. These girls are up-and-coming new voice actresses. These women aren’t lacking for work, and this probably isn’t going to be the same as “their” Powerpuff Girls. These folk should be encouraging new talents, not potentially riling up their fanbases against what will be the first major gigs for these young women over parts they had a decade ago. That’s kind of immature and petty.
Edit: Apparently, it gets worse. The most successful VA of the three actively lobbying to take potentially career-making parts away from the younger voice actresses. [link]
HOOOOOLD UP THERE PARDNER. Let’s get some extra context in there, because I saw these tweets too, but here’s the Missing Link tweet we’re looking for here:
While I don’t agree with the other tweets (come on ladies, you’re professionals, and I know how much you love and support EVERYONE in the VA business), it does soften the blow a little knowing that EG, Cathy and Tara were never even approached with an offer. That’s kind of sad, especially given the original PPG attained the legendary #SixSeasonsAndAMovie status.
But on that same note, I hope their sour grapes don’t last. There does come a point when you have to hand the keys over to the next generation. Remember, the last episode of the original PPG aired in 2002, over 13 years ago. Powerpuff Girls ended when Windows XP first came out. It shouldn’t feel like a stab in the heart to pass the torch, especially after that long.
I’m sorry these three legends didn’t even get A CHANCE to reprise their roles, but I really hope they’ll swallow their pride and be supportive to the next generation. Love and support, guys. Support your VA family. Voice acting is an under-appreciated talent as it is, and newcomers need that support.
I’m sorry if I sound like a old fashion nostalgia obsessed dude here but I’m still on the side of the original voice cast and it’s completely understandable why they’re upset. These three voiced the PPG not only for six season run but also reprised them for several video games and TV specials that were made afterword, they’re attached to these characters as any voice actor and TV performer would be.
Now let me make it perfectly clear that I have nothing personal against the new voice actresses and I’m not going to judge them until I actually hear them play their characters. In fact if they were going for a completely different tone or reboot or re-casted everybody I would be all for it (like with the different adaptions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), but from what I’ve seen this show seems to be going for a very similar tone to the original (Right down to the designs) and it’s been confirmed Tom Kenny will be returning to reprise his role as the narrator and the mayor (it’s also been rumored that other cast members will be returning as well but I can’t seem to find any sources), so to replace the original actresses seems to be a bit confusing at this point.
I know this might sound like me just complaining but wouldn’t you be upset if all of a sudden Nickelodeon decided to replace Tom Kenny as Spongebob Squarepants with another voice actor?
I have nothing against brining new talent into the voice acting field but I think we should do it by creating new characters for them to voice.
But I guess business is business, I wish both the original cast and the new cast luck in the future and while I would prefer the originals like I said before I’m gonna wait until I hear the new cast preform before I start judging them.
Meanwhile, Tom Kenny returns anyway along with other initial VAs.
