A similar idea is a spirit entering the body and transforming them. Then the spirit controls the body.

Seeing as I’ve been on a bit of a Naruto kick of late there’s a fun idea for a TF involving possession that I’ve not seen much of: Bijuu. The tailed beasts have some really cool designs, it’d be interesting to see, or draw, a possession TF involving one of them, but which one?
