Land of the free home of the rich
What really scares me is that they all have significantly cheaper health care AND education, which means Americans not only make the least, they pay the most.
Let this sink in for a moment.
That’s a valid point, for medication, but that’s a fairly small issue brought up here, Espy. Drug costs are higher to support their research, as you say, but so too are hospitalization costs across the board, not just for the issues raised by the wiki.
As it stands, America does contribute heavily to the research and development of new medications, but it is also low on the list for general health care in comparison to many of its allies and economic ‘competitors’. We spend a lot on health care, health insurance, pharmaceuticals, research and development, and yet America is 46th in the world for general health care (Source).
Taking the health system out of it, America is still suffering according to the info on the post (Which I’d consider a more reliable source than Wikipedia). America is trailing not only in the health department given the amount spent, but also in education (Source) due to broken education systems and poor economic practices. You can argue for the discrepancy in minimum wage by raising the point of greater spending on medicinal research all you want, but that doesn’t keep it from being an issue. New and more effective medicines don’t mean much to the people who can’t afford them because the vast majority of people in the U.S. make pennies in comparison to those profiting off of the advances and results. (In response to a point raised that the US contributes 36% of the research on medical technologies, and medicinal advancement and developments, making the higher health costs reasonable that has since been deleted.)The minimum wage in US varies from state to state
That’s true, but $7.25 is the national minimum. It can go higher, but not lower by state.
To be honest, i think the only thing the US leads in is military power. As for education, i personally live in a tri county area with terrible neighborhoods. I can safely say that education needs more caring students to work.
