That’s a good way of setting things, though in order for such a thing to work changelings would have to be true parasitic empaths, which does work and has been done well.

Within Papi’s canon changelings developed the capacity to feed off of love and love specifically because it is readily renewable within the confines of one’s own hive.  Changelings in Papi’s canon are selectively parasitic empaths because they have only adapted to consume love, and they did that in order to maintain a home and place within an ecosystem without depleting the immediate resources therein.
