“Suicide Squad is great!  The critics just don’t get it!  All of the real fans love it!”

Rotten Tomatoes score is still at 27%.  One of the biggest names in the movie has come out saying that he hates it because it left him out.  The film has had the second biggest box office drop off in a week, beaten only by Batman Vs Superman…..

The movie was not good.  It wasn’t god awful and it had its moments, but it was still a bad movie and that’s certainly being reflected in the reviews and box office numbers both.

DC, why must you try so hard and fail so spectacularly at being Marvel?  Take your time, do your own thing, and for the love of all that’s good, don’t butcher your own characters.

Sausage party is higher. Does that mean that that’s a good film? I thought everyone agreed that Jared Leto was annoying and, as such, his opinions don’t matter. And box office drops mean very little. CA: CW dropped 74 percent in it’s second weekend.

I thought everyone’s complaint was that They were trying to be different than Marvel. I lose track. It seems like people go back and forth on that depending on what the news is. I also thought people didn’t like how long it took Them to make a movie, what with that whole meme about how Marvel make more movies and are therefore better. They’re doing Their own thing in case you hadn’t noticed. Some people not liking doesn’t mean that They’re not. And I haven’t seen any characters butchered so far.

Firstly, Cap dropped 59% in its second weekend, which is on the higher end for comic films, as opposed to 67% for Suicide Squad and 69% for BvS which are on the low end for any film.  Box office drops mean a fair bit.  The opening weekend numbers are typically a gauge for how well the studio did in marketing their film, whereas the second weekend numbers are a gauge for how well the film actually resonated with fans and how much said fans want more.

DC’s issue isn’t that they’re trying to be different from Marvel, it’s that they’re trying to catch up to Marvel and do it hard.  That’s why the second film in a series saw major characters pit against each other and against a world ending threat when next to none of them had been explored or built on.  Marvel’s where they’re at now because they took time, set up arcs and characters well in advance before bringing them into a group movie.  That’s why their films tend to be more focused, and even when they’re not great end up doing well for more than the first few days.  That same reason is why the last 2 DCEU films have been so split in reaction and ended up floundering after coming out, they’re playing catch up and it’s hurting them in the end.

Marvel makes more movies now because they’ve had the opportunity to build their cinematic universe, and it’s been stupidly profitable.  That the movies tend to be average to amazing on their own is a definite plus.  DC hasn’t taken the same amount of time or invested the same care in crafting their world for cinema and so pieces are missing that should be touched on, pieces which end up leaving holes that aren’t filled in the films so far.  Marvel went from film 1 to film 2 and so on and it’s worked.  DC went from film 1 to film 4 to film 7 and it’s hurting them.

DC has said that Suicide Squad needs to pull in at least $800 million to break even.  Globally it’s just over half of that after its second weekend, and is not slated to release in China so it making its goal is possible but unlikely.

As for characters being butchered, try Lex, Harley, Joker, Batman, Superman, Katana, Doomsday, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.  In the DCEU none of the characters come off like their comic counterparts, which at times is great and good, but more often is just done for the sake of being done and only detracts from the films when they’re already skipping so many steps.

  • Why Vote Bernie?

    gendermax:

–Bernie is the only presidential candidate that has never voted against LGBTQ+ rights & has always voted for same-sex marriage legalization

    – He is pro-choice “ we are not returning to the days of back room abortions, when countless women died or were maimed. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman, her family, & physician to make, not the government.” -Senator Bernie Sanders

    – Pro-Gun control , he agrees that people should have the right to bare arms in the case of self defense or hunting but nobody needs a bazooka to go hunting. he is for strict limitations on the purchasing of guns & getting a gun license.

    – Free health care to everyone. though this wont be a big deal for people with higher wages, the majority of americas is lower middle class & by cutting down a monthly bill can help alot

    – raising minimum wage to a living wage $15 , anyone with kids or in general should be able to see their families & friends instead of working 2 jobs to barely live

    – by raising minimum wage we will be lowering poverty rates in america , & we do happen to have the highest poverty rates.

    – Free or almost free education in all public schools, plans to substantially lower student loan payments for everyone & plans to make all public colleges free , giving everyone the right to education that they are able to obtain

    – free or very cheap access to internet for everyone, for research , school , etc. without hidden rates etc.

    – gender equality in the workplace, consisting of equal wages & making it illegal to deny someone work for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

    – for the legalization of marijuana for medical & recreational usages , & adding taxes to it. letting everyone in jail for marijuana related charges out.

You guys, I don’t think you realize how important it is to support Bernie Sanders. This is the candidate we’ve all been waiting for! But if we don’t unite to support him, unless more scandals go down, Hillary Clinton is going to get the Democratic nomination, no doubt! You know why? Because the older Democratic generation will be voting for HER in the primaries and not Bernie Sanders. If you’re 18 or older, you NEED to register to vote and vote for him during the primaries. You can’t wait for the general election, or it’ll be too late! The younger generation FINALLY has the opportunity to cause change! And I really don’t want to watch us drop this opportunity!

It’s late, so I’m gonna tackle the ones I have sources for and/or know more about.

    – Free health care to everyone. though this wont be a big deal for people with higher wages, the majority of americas is lower middle class & by cutting down a monthly bill can help alot

Healthcare is not free. Especially to the middle class. Our taxes pay for healthcare, and will continue to pay for healthcare. (Also, Medicare sucks now because it’s extremely restrictive as to what insurance will pay for)

    – raising minimum wage to a living wage $15 , anyone with kids or in general should be able to see their families & friends instead of working 2 jobs to barely live

Oh Lord haven’t you people learned yet? Raising the minimum wage that much will CRIPPLE small businesses. People everywhere will get FIRED. Businesses that can’t afford it will have a purge, and business that can but don’t want to will also purge.

    http://newsexaminer.net/food/mcdonalds-to-open-restaurant-run-by-robots/

McDonald’s is an enormous corporation, but it often falls on the individual restaurants to pick up payrolls, especially with the amount of people hired.

“With the high demand for a wage of $15/hr and the protests getting worse every day, this is something we had to implement. Plus with the tremendous margin of human error, poor hygiene, lack of education, laziness, as well as the recent advancements in artificial intelligence it just make sense to automate our restaurants now rather than later.”

They literally can’t afford (or won’t pay for) the raised wage.

    It only hurts workers.

    – by raising minimum wage we will be lowering poverty rates in america , & we do happen to have the highest poverty rates.

    See above.

Also, WE have the highest poverty rates? Are you kidding me?

    http://247wallst.com/special-report/2012/09/14/the-10-poorest-countries-in-the-world/3/

Haiti is the poorest, we don’t even make the top TEN.

    – Free or almost free education in all public schools, plans to substantially lower student loan payments for everyone & plans to make all public colleges free , giving everyone the right to education that they are able to obtain

WHO WILL PAY FOR THIS? WHO WILL PAY FOR THIS? WHO WILL PAY FOR THIS?

    YOU! THE TAXPAYERS OF AMERICA!

I’m not paying an ungodly amount of taxes to have some schmuck waltz in, take two years of higher education, and decide it’s not for them and quit.

Free college will not be free.

    – gender equality in the workplace, consisting of equal wages & making it illegal to deny someone work for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

??????? We already have gender equality?!!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Labor_Standards_Act

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Pay_Act_of_1963

It’s literally already illegal to pay two people for the same work, same hours, same experience differently! Do you people not pay attention in political science classes!

Also, it’s illegal to deny someone work. See Far Labor Standards act.

Bernie Sanders is relying on the collective ignorance of this generation to implement his reforms. Do NOT fall for this.

Not to mention the cost for his proposals ($18 trillion) doubles our national debt, and that taxing the 1% at 100% would only keep one government program afloat for four months.

Also, you only have to make over $113,799 to be considered in the top 10% of earners in the U.S.

    Extra Sanders sources for funsies.

    Okay two points.

One - “Who will pay for this omg who???” - I’ve heard from multiple sources that Bernie will be raising taxes on the rich. So, that’s who.

And Two - Ya know yeah maybe a lot of what Bernie wants to do is flawed. Maybe it won’t work. Maybe it’ll make things a little tougher. But you know what he’s doing that none of the other candidates are? Trying. Bernie’s looked at the situation and went “These things need to change. Here’s how I want to do it.” Not “Oh yeah those things are screwed but hey look we need to build a wall on our Mexican border and make am Muslims register for yellow stars.”

I’d much rather vote for Bernie and live in a society that sucks but is trying to do better than one that is racist.

What always astounds me about the points made against Bernie’s plans is how poorly supported they are.  People forget that American’s pay less in taxes now than much of American history, and that the highest tax rates were seen during a period that many consider the hayday of America, namely the post WWII era.  People also forget that a minimum wage was first introduced for the very reason of providing a guaranteed livable wage not only for individuals, but for families.

Accounting for inflation, increase in productivity, and adjustments in the cost of living Americans make a fraction of what they should be with the current minimum wage approximately 25% lower than it was in 1968.  Would raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour destroy businesses?  Not likely, though small businesses may see a blow at first.  People assume that spending will not deviate from current patterns if the average worker suddenly has a greater income and time to themselves.  Shockingly, putting more money into the hands of the people who spend the majority of their income on the necessities and scraping by allows them more opportunity to indulge in luxuries.  People tend to spend money when they earn enough to get by and still have some left over.  That doesn’t happen nearly as much now because of the disparity in wealth, and the tendency for the very wealthy to hold their wealth rather than use it.

The fear that taxes will be raised for everyone is largely groundless, though not completely.  Taxes should be raised to some extent, though the increase should be, and is variable based off of income.  Right now the absolute highest tax rate that we have is 39.6% for incomes over $400,000, but that 39.6% is only applicable on the amount earned beyond that $400,000.  It isn’t adjusted retroactively.  What Sanders proposes is higher taxes for the highest incomes and those in their brackets, as well as taxing major corporations that are largely overlooked by current tax codes and policies, and that can circumvent the current tax codes through subsidies and relocation of profits.  That doesn’t affect the vast majority of Americans.  Far from it.

People fear the plans and speculation that Sanders stands behind because it’s admittedly very different from what Americans are used to right now.  It’s strange to consider.  It’s not new though.  Much of the economic reform that Sanders has proposed, between taxation changes, wage changes, health care changes, paid leave, etc. has all been implemented to varying degrees of success in other parts of the world, or has seen success in America in the past.

All that aside, Sanders is still probably the best candidate for a few reasons:   1. He’s transparent and honest about what he would do.
    2. He’s among the most experienced candidates running as far as working with Congress goes
    3. He’s consistent.  The issues he’s saying are a problem now are ones that he’s been talking about not for a few years, but for decades, without flip-flopping to suit the political climate of the time.
    4.  He’s not an asshole.
