original powerpuff girls voice actresses learning about their replacements

Wow. Not cool there ladies. I’m hoping this is mostly out of context. These three women are established voice actors with strong careers and a plethora of parts under their belts (especially Tara Strong who is well known for roles like Harley Quinn). The show is being rebooted for a new audience and potentially with a different slant. These girls are up-and-coming new voice  actresses. These women aren’t lacking for work, and this probably isn’t going to be the same as “their” Powerpuff Girls. These folk should be encouraging new talents, not potentially riling up their fanbases against what will be the first major gigs for these young women over parts they had a decade ago. That’s kind of immature and petty.

Edit: Apparently, it gets worse. The most successful VA of the three actively lobbying to take potentially career-making parts away from the younger voice actresses. [link]

    image

HOOOOOLD UP THERE PARDNER. Let’s get some extra context in there, because I saw these tweets too, but here’s the Missing Link tweet we’re looking for here:

    image

While I don’t agree with the other tweets (come on ladies, you’re professionals, and I know how much you love and support EVERYONE in the VA business), it does soften the blow a little knowing that EG, Cathy and Tara were never even approached with an offer. That’s kind of sad, especially given the original PPG attained the legendary #SixSeasonsAndAMovie status.

But on that same note, I hope their sour grapes don’t last. There does come a point when you have to hand the keys over to the next generation. Remember, the last episode of the original PPG aired in 2002, over 13 years ago. Powerpuff Girls ended when Windows XP first came out. It shouldn’t feel like a stab in the heart to pass the torch, especially after that long.

I’m sorry these three legends didn’t even get A CHANCE to reprise their roles, but I really hope they’ll swallow their pride and be supportive to the next generation. Love and support, guys. Support your VA family. Voice acting is an under-appreciated talent as it is, and newcomers need that support.

I’m sorry if I sound like a old fashion nostalgia obsessed dude here but I’m still on the side of the original voice cast and it’s completely understandable why they’re upset. These three voiced the PPG not only for six season run but also reprised them for several video games and TV specials that were made afterword, they’re attached to these characters as any voice actor and TV performer would be.

Now let me make it perfectly clear that I have nothing personal against the new voice actresses and I’m not going to judge them until I actually hear them play their characters. In fact if they were going for a completely different tone or reboot or re-casted everybody I would be all for it (like with the different adaptions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), but from what I’ve seen this show seems to be going for a very similar tone to the original (Right down to the designs) and it’s been confirmed Tom Kenny will be returning to reprise his role as the narrator and the mayor (it’s also been rumored that other cast members will be returning as well but I can’t seem to find any sources), so to replace the original actresses seems to be a bit confusing at this point.

I know this might sound like me just complaining but wouldn’t you be upset if all of a sudden Nickelodeon decided to replace Tom Kenny as Spongebob Squarepants with another voice actor?

I have nothing against brining new talent into the voice acting field but I think we should do it by creating new characters for them to voice.

But I guess business is business, I wish both the original cast and the new cast luck in the future and while I would prefer the originals like I said before I’m gonna wait until I hear the new cast preform before I start judging them.

Meanwhile, Tom Kenny returns anyway along with other initial VAs.

    4. Favorite video game character: A hard question to answer, but one of my favorite characters is probably Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite in part because of how she carries herself and because she’s not just a helpless partner.

    6.  Favorite genre:  Probably RPGs.  Even if I don’t finish them, managing inventory, building a character up from scratch and the story aspects have always been favorite aspects for me.

  • It is such a strange thing to listen to a group you were once a part of.  I left choir because of depression and disagreement with the director, but though I did not always agree with his methods, I shall never question his results.

  • To be fair Blaziken is just plain OP with Speed Boost, Swamparts typing is naturally better other than its glaring weakness to grass, tis a shame though i like Sceptiles design alot myself.
    ask-evil-applejack

I love the design, but I always favor the other two, especially in ORAS.  Their respective Megas really seal the deal, with Mega Blaziken accentuating it’s already broken attack and giving it extra speed which was it’s biggest issue, Mega Swampert becoming a hulking tank of meat and mud that, in rain, is a monster, and Mega Sceptile getting boosts that only serve to accentuate the strengths that it has but is ill equipped to use, a typing that largely serves to add more weaknesses instead of resistances, and an ability that does nothing to help it at all.

The Treecko line is the least potent of the Hoenn starters, and that is only made more apparent by its Mega which could have been wildly more effective with simple changes.  That’s why I think that Gamefreak hates Treecko.

  • theoretically you could balance out the problems with treeko's stats using super training and breeding. but on the other hand, its your starter. and people get really freaking attached to their starters fast.
    switch-up-snowfox

They do, and Treecko’s line is usable in the main game, I’ll never say it’s not.  The problem with the Treecko line is that its base stats do not lend themselves well to the movepool that it has, and vice versa.  It is workable, but it will never be outstanding and stands in the shadow of the other two Hoenn starters because of it.

  • Dude, I feel you. I did a run on Alpha Sapphire recently where I tried to use Pokemon I didn't really use before. Stuff like Breloom, Camerupt, Milotic, that kinda stuff. As a result I tried to have Treecko as my starter and I just could not use him. He was hardly useful in any situation and it felt like he was just... there. I ended up boxing him right after I got his Mega Stone.

I feel that the Treecko line is usable just running through the game, but outside of moving from gym to gym, they’re like a soccer player who has never heard of leg day.

Hey, don’t be hatin on treecko.

I’ve said it before, aesthetically the Treecko line is fine.  Their movepool does not fit their stats though, and it hasn’t since Gen IV.

    Who cares about stats?

Many people, especially when the stats determine how much damage you can take and deal out.  Treecko’s line has terrible defenses so it cannot take a hit well.  It has poor attack, so it cannot do damage efficiently with most of its movepool, but it has great speed and special attack.  Unfortunately it has few options that take advantage of what it is made to do.

Competitively it’s terrible, but it still has a good design.  Even just going through the game there are better grass types with access to better attacks and the means to use them well.

As for me, IDGAF. It’s not how you train the pokemon, it’s how you use it.

That’s the problem though, it’s not about training the Treecko line, it’s about how they are set up to be used.  Treecko and its evolution have high speed and special attack but low defenses.  Effectively they’re lizard mages in an rpg.  The problem with that is that instead of spells and techniques that take advantage of what they’re best at they’re given knives that they can’t use nearly as well as a lot of others.

The Treecko line are mages told to attack with sticks instead of spells and that hurts them a lot.

For people who think that’s the right way. When it’s not. I use the treecko line in the right way. I try to keep it balanced and work on what attacks could help it. Like giga drain.

Giga Drain’s a good move, but better suited to something with more bulk and longevity, neither or which Treecko or its line have.  It’s also a relatively low-powered attack, but admittedly one that does benefit from the line’s superior special attack.  You know what doesn’t though?  It’s signature move of Leaf Blade, or X-Scissor, Earthquake, Return, or 75% of the moves that it can learn.  The bulk of the moves that they can learn are physical, and their physical attack is not high enough to take advantage of.  The bulk of the special moves that the Treecko line can learn are grass type, and many of those are draining moves which are nice but don’t lend themselves well to the line in general.

Like I said earlier, the Treecko line is not built in a way that favors the options that it has access to.  It is usable going from one gym to the next, but outside of straight progression there are much better grass types.

Why do you think he has sharp leaves on it’s arms? It’s based on physical attack.

When Treecko’s line first came out in Generation III all grass attacks were special based, including Leaf Blade.  At that time Treecko and its evolutions were good.  In Generation IV however the physical/special split happened making some grass moves based off of physical attack, and some special.  Almost all of the moves that Treecko and its line have access to became physical after this point.

Treecko’s line has always had subpar physical attack, but above average special attack.  It has not been able to take advantage of its base stats in 3 generations because the bulk of its movepool is physical.  Despite getting new options every generation the problems that came to be in gen IV HAVE NOT CHANGED.
