I really don’t like the whole “I was born gay.” No, you’re not BORN gay just like how you’re not BORN straight. I know when I was 5 and I saw gentiles, I didn’t even think twice. But it’s also true it’s not a conscious choice. I don’t think we’ll ever truly know what causes sexual orientation until we can properly measure brain chemistry (which we can’t do yet nor be able to do in the foreseeable future)
It’s a fair point, you’re not born gay. However, you’re also not born with hair in most of the places that biology says you’re going to grow it, or at 6 ft.
You’re not born gay, but you are gay from the day you’re born. It’s just lying in wait, ready to pounce.
Honestly? I don’t have many thoughts. I know the community exists, and I know they love something a whole lot, and they love loving it together.
I think that’s wonderful.
No, Will :( even the least harmful of these guys has taken a show aimed for little girls and made it about them. It’s crazy upsetting that my 11 year old sister, who really likes MLP, can’t do a Google search without crazy shit about dude wanting to screw cartoon ponies or at least about crazy MRA theories about the MLP universe having killed off all the male ponies (I’ve also seen these guys crying about how the show won’t pander to their sexual fantasies and why don’t they have more men?)
Bronies in theory sound good. Bronies in reality are stealing one of the few shows for little girls and sexualizing it…as if little girls don’t have to deal with early sexualization enough as it is. :-(
I think it’s important that we criticize these men who feel they have a certain right to demand a show made for children pander to them in any way.
MY FRIEND LAYING DOWN THE TRUUUUTH!
Yep, fuck bronies, that shit pisses me off. Rosey can’t even watch MLP on YouTube without finding brony wankfests. Fucks these dudes. Not everything must pander to you, fuckheads.
Oh, those evil bronies are ruining your pirating copyright material experience?? When committing copyright infringement you’re worried your kid is going to learn something inappropriate???? My heart & hooves bleed for you.
Since we can apparently decided who’s allowed to like a thing, Lori- I’ve decided women aren’t allowed to like Star Trek. Sorry, honey, guys only. Don’t like it? Fucks those chicks. Not everything must pander to you, fuckheads.
FYI even with safe search OFF, my Google image searches doesn’t show anything inappropriate. FYI the internet doesn’t have to pander to you, fuckhead.
Awww, look, I made a brony cryyyyy! Hahaha, I revel in your beardhurt, you dickless fedorae.
I am 100% impartial to the Brony debate. I do not watch the show (I watched a few eps when the craze started, but didn’t really see the appeal) nor do I know any children who watch the show who have had their experiences of the show tarnished by Bronies.
So I decided to do a a couple of simple searches from my unbiased position.
The first was of Google (with safe search off. And considering we’re talking about kids surfing the internet…safe search should probably be on anyway). Results From the First 5 Pages:
- 26 Links to Official Sites (eg. TV Channel websites, merchandising)
- 5 Information Sites (eg: Wikipedia, IMDB)
- 10 Social Network Sites (eg: Reddit, Tumblr, ff.net)
Results in any way related to ‘Bronies’:
- (Page 1) Reddit My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic community (here) where you will note that only SFW and canon material is allowed
- (Page 1) Know Your Meme page for MLP Friendship is Magic (Here) Which contains no NSFW material, gives a short overview of the presence pf MLP on the internet (which yes, mentions Bronies but nothing against the show is mentioned), and, if anything, gives a more positive message of creativity to children by showcasing artwork and cosplays related to MLP.
- (Page 3) My Little Pony ff.net page (here) which, admittedly, can get a little raunchy. But lets make a comparison to literally any other children’s tv show and we will see the same thing happens for almost all shows. A good number of it probably written by those who discriminate against Bronies. Let us also note, that the automated Filter on this page sets the Rating at K - T, so a child would have to go looking to find something inappropriate here.
- (Page 3) An article titled: “11-Year-Old “My Little Pony” Fan Attempts Suicide; Bronies Rally.” Which tells the story of a young boy who was bullied in school, by children his own age (note: not the Bronies of the internet) to the point where he attempted suicide. Here’s what Bronies did: “raised more than $48,000 at the time of writing” in order to pay for the child’s medical bills
- (Page 3) Meme page for MLP (here). This is by far the most incriminating thing I have found so far on Bronies, however, even it is a far stretch from the examples given by other people above. While there are a few slightly inappropriate jokes on the pages, they are generally not ones children would understand (Think jokes made for adults in Disney movies that kids don’t get). Most of the content is similar to the reddit page; SFW and canon related. However, I will mark this one up as a negative for the Bronies as I am sure inappropriate items do surface here.
- (Page 3) My Little Pony tag on Tumblr. This is mostly ponies, a lot of creative artwork, and screen caps. There are a few pictures of humanoid Ponies, perhaps a little sexualized, but nothing inherently negative about them.
- (Page 4) MLP tag in DeviantArt. Similar to the Tumblr tags. Just artwork of the show, nothing inappropriate as the Filter comes on automatically.
- (Page 4) A webpage (here) for a Documentary titled “Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony” which explores the worldwide phenomenon of Bronies. Nothing negative here.
- (Page 5) A CBC News story (Here) about a Brony Convention in BC, Canada. This only discusses the positive side of Bronies as stated here “Bronies’ inspired by the show’s message of tolerance, inclusion and friendship”, and here “my heart, so to speak, became lighter and softer and ever since then I cannot be happier.” This article also has a video that has some cosplays in it. Again, cool for creativity.
So far I am finding very little evidence of any of these hypersexualized, negative images of MLP that kids seem to find so easily. Now on to YouTube.
Results from the First 2 Pages Only (because I gotta get to bed):
- 14 Clips from the show/trailers
- 17 videos of MLP video games and commercials for merchandise
Fanmade Material:
- Superman Meets My Little Pony Wherein Equestria is in danger and they summon Superman to help them. It seems to be in good humor. I wouldn’t worry about kids getting any inappropriate material from it
- Episode 4 of the Power Ponies series. The maker used figurines to tell a story. The only slightly awful thing here is that the voices are very Valley Girl, but nothing awful once more.
- Luna’s Let it Go a Frozen Parody using MLP. It’s actually pretty sweet. I suggest it.
My Conclusions:
I’m sure there are inappropriate things out there from the Bronies. There are inappropriate things from literally every single fandom ever on the internet. I don’t doubt that there is material the hypersexualizes a show meant for young girls. However, I find very little evidence to support those claims above that kids are stumbling upon this inappropriate material all the time, ruining their image of the show. I’m sure the results would change slightly if search terms were altered, or if different search engines were used, and if you went through enough results. However, Bronies, at least from the information kids would be able to surf through, are totally harmless.
So remember Tumblr, you all like to be advocates for people who are fans of shows and movies and books, etc. Bronies create no different material than you or I do, and it is just as well hidden from children as an material from any other show.
So before you go attacking Bronies, perhaps you should do a little digging first.
science wins.
Boo-yah.

And Ash has been known to take a season and a half to get 2 badges.
Though I haven’t been watching Twitch Plays Pokemon, I still get the feeling that they’re being more efficient than Ash.
