Okay, so here’s what you do: go watch the animated movies.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
Justice League: The New Frontier
Your mileage may vary based on how much you enjoy them, but I love these movies. They’re all animated films and I’m pretty sure all of them involve Bruce Timm and Paul Dini in some measure, whom you may know as being the driving force behind the fantastic “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond”. Many of these animated movies hold very true to the comics with beautiful animation, great voice acting, excellent characterization, and overall offer a hugely superior experience to any of the live action movies.
If you want a good general DC series that’s a nice blend of comic book action and slice-of-life stories to watch, go give “Justice League: Unlimited” a shot. Please make sure you watch Unlimited - there’s another “Justice League” cartoon that came out prior to Unlimited and it’s pretty shit. If you want some campy, playful goodness sure to put a smile on your face, then try out “Batman: The Brave and The Bold”, which is one of my absolute favorites. Any show that’s got Aquaman singing a rousing musical number to inspire his teammates is aces by me.
If you want to wash the bad taste of Batman V Superman out of your mouth, then please do yourself a huge favor by watching “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies”. It is by and large my favorite depiction of the two as friends and fellow heroes, particularly since the both of them spend the majority of the film heavily wounded, hiding from enemies hunting them, and bantering. The two have amazing chemistry and really do chat like old friends throughout.
All fantastic examples of DC doing good by their characters. For another animated example of good DC might I recommend Young Justice? There may only be two seasons, and it ends on a cliffhanger much like Teen Titans, but it’s still an amazing series and is available in full on Netflix.
If you would prefer live action entries, The Flash is actually really good, at least so far, and is worth looking in to. The other series in the same universe are more hit and miss and tend to suffer more from DC’s strange desire to make everything they make into Batman.
