So I just saw a superhero origin story involving an iconic character wearing primarily red and blue and wielding a shield. They spend much of their innocent youth wishing to join the armed forces to defend their country, and those who cannot defend themselves. One day, a chance encounter with a foreigner gives them the chance to do so and the character is embroiled in a historic World War.
Together Captain Steve and a more bold and competent woman gather a small misfit group of soldiers and specialists and infiltrate the enemy to stop them from developing a new super weapon. While doing so they come to find that the head of the development consists of a power-mad general and a mad scientist, both of whom are German and one of whom is disfigured but hides it behind a prosthetic.
Through victories and defeats Captain Steve and the female lead corner the evil Germans at the source of the weapon development. Captain Steve ends up bidding the female lead a farewell before sacrificing himself on board a plane to keep the new superweapon from being used on a major capital city. The main antagonist, meanwhile is destroyed by his own actions involving otherworldly powers. The female lead copes with the loss of Captain Steve and the misfit soldiers are largely overlooked or forgotten upon their triumphant return.
Wonder Woman was good.
