  • I really hope that the Game Grumps do a playthrough of Pokemon Sun or Moon.  And not because Dartrix looks like Arin and Alolan Exeggutor would fit for Danny.

  • I will never understand why Digimon games (and Digimon in general, but mostly the games) have such little variety in terms of Digimon that show up.  Case in point, the last two games that have come out, Cyber Sleuth and the upcoming Next Order both have around 250 species, with between 20 and 25% of those just being recolors of other Digimon, sometimes with minor alterations.  These are games coming out on the Vita and PS4, there’s no excuse.

X and Y (which released a year prior to the Vita release of Cyber Sleuth on inferior hardware) had more than 700 unique sprites and species, with every one having a minimum of 1 additional color, and all fully animated.  Sun and Moon are only going to increase that number.

Digimon has nowhere near the constraints with what they can and can’t make into a Digimon that Pokemon does, so why is it so hard to put in more than 250 actually unique models and species?

  • When it was first announced, it was stated that Pokemon Sun and Moon would be able to connect to Pokemon Red Blue and Yellow on the Virtual Console.

Of the 8 currently known Alolan form Pokemon, 5 were originally exclusive to Blue Version.  I’d expect Alolan Growlithe/Arcanine, Ekans/Arbok and Mankey before too long to make up the difference.

  • “6th gen Pokemon is too easy!  I played through the game and I was 10 levels over everyone the whole time!”

Turn off your Exp. Share, it fixes that.

“6th gen didn’t add enough!  There was only like, 7 new Pokemon added!”

6th gen added a new type, and though it only added 71 new species, only one of which being related to a previous line, it also added 47 Mega Evolutions for an effective total of 118, more than Johto or Sinnoh.

“All the new Pokemon are stupid, only the originals are good!”

    And there’s the Genwunner revealed.

I really hope these same arguments don’t come up as much in Gen 7, but I know they will.

  • Pokemon Sun and Moon rumors pt. 2

    • Alola is made up of 4 islands, Melemele, Poni, Ula’Ula, and Akala.
    • Post game has 4 “Island Districts” that aren’t viewable on the map. Ekahi Island, Elua Island, Ekolu Island, and Kalola Island.
    • Kalos is not available post-game, but Hoomaka Cave on Kalola Island holds a huge easter egg I believe. Deep inside there is a dark entrance guarded by a backpacker that states the railroad is closed for now and only a Pokémon that emits a special light can ignite the way to the other side. No Pokémon in your party will allow you to enter for now.
    • Rockruff has 3 evolutions similar to Eevee in RBY. All of them require learning “Howl”.
    • Salandit has a split evolution line at level 36, one for Male and one for Female.
    • There are 16 Z-Stones, 18 total, with a Trial Captain for 16 of the types. Guzma and Plumeria are holders of the missing Dark and Poison Z-Stones.
    • Some Pokémon can change shape/stats after they perform a Z-Move. These include Greninja (Rainbow), Solgaleo (Radiant), Lunala (Full Moon), Marshadow (Eclipse), Espeon (Dawn), and Umbreon (Dusk).
    • All 47 Mega Stones are accessible on the island districts. There aren’t any new Mega Evolutions.
    • There are a total of 128 new Pokémon and 23 Alolan forms. These Alolan forms are all Gen 1 exclusive Pokémon.
    • Alolan form Pokémon that are capable of Mega Evolving can do so, Alakazam and Kangaskahn are among these.
    • Marshadow, an extremely gorgeous dolphin, has a jewel on its head that emit sparkles so bright, that its seen as the emissary of light. It’s stats are pretty underwhelming, but it has a cool ability that allows it to have any Psychic type combination. The second type is random every time it enters the battle field. Even switching out causes it to change.
    • The Strange Souvenir item in XY depicts a Ghost/Rock Pokémon from Alola named Gigareki. It’s a giant tiki (different from the Tapu lines) that has an amazing laughing animation when you battle with it. It is said to be the oldest living Pokémon, and seen as a “Teacher” in many ways.
    • The NX will be a dual handheld/console set for release next year. Sept 2017 there will be a parent game that features both regions of XYSM exclusive to this console.
    • Rainbow Greninja will be revealed by TPC on Aug 21.
    • Alolan Alakazam family are fighting type. Alolan Alakazam can mega evolve, keeps the fighting type, and gains No Guard.
    • Yes. The Z-Bracelet is a key item in your backpack. Selecting it allows you to place 1 mega stone and 1 z stone inside of it. This allows for more crazy strategies because your Mega Pokémon can now hold items like Rayquaza due to this.
    • The first district you’re taken too has a slightly upgraded Battle Maison. One of the districts has a Lugia/Ho-Oh depending on your version.
    • All Champions from previous games are able to battled on the S.S. Anne while they’re bored. The S.S. Anne brings you to the districts.
    • Rainbow Greninja is technically Ash Greninja but with a name change. It will be revealed in the closing ceremony at World’s 2016.
    • Meowth that knows “Happy Hour” and OT Alola will be distributed at World’s. Cherish Ball.
    • If you add 128 to our existing 721 roster, that means Generation 8 will only need to introduce 151 Pokemon (like a reboot) to bring our total count to 1000.

We can expect a gameplay demonstration from Gamescom, and one of these rumors may be confirmed on Saturday 8/21 during Worlds.  Here’s hoping!

  • Wow, Sun and Moon leaks.  Allegedly the ENTIRE LIST of new Pokemon has been posted on 4chan and can be found here with a listing of names and types.  The list is absolutely unconfirmed as of this post, and should not be taken as fact until it gets some form of confirmation.  New news is scheduled to drop on 8/12 which could confirm the information.  Until then, have a summary of the 103 new Pokemon.

    • The starter evolutions having types listed as “Grass/Various” “Fire/Various” and “Water/Various”
    •  Also mentions Rockruff’s evo having 4 potential typings based off of location which the previous leaks mentioned.
    • Bounsweet looks to have a branched evolution where it either gains  a Psychic subtype or becomes pure Poison.
    • New Possum Pokémon 2 stage family that’s Dark.  Evolutions for Comfey and Cutiefly,
    • A Normal/Flying that evolves into a Fairy/Flying.
    • Komala gaining a Psychic type on evolution.
    • Bruxish having a preevolution.
    • A second 2 stage Water/Psychic family.
    • Minior evolves.
    • The cat with various secondary typings does evolve.
    • A Bug/Ice line with a Bug/Dark offshoot, maybe like Shedinja.
    • 2 stage Snowman line that’s Ice/Ghost like the previous leaks.
    • Water type Dolphin that evolves into a Water/Steel, Water/Fairy, Water/Ice or Water/Dragon dolphin depending on origin.
    • A sea cucumber/anemone line that starts pure Water and gains Poison on evolving.
    • Mimikyuu doesn’t evolve.
    • Neither does Togedemaru.
    • 2 stage Ground type line that gains Dark on evolving.
    • Wimpod has a preevolution and an evolution.
    • Fighting/Ground type Pokémon, single stage, possibly gorilla.
    • Drampa has a preevolution.
    • 3 stage Psychic line.
    • 2 stage Steel/Water line.
    • Salandit has a pure Poison preevolution and a Poison/Fire evolution.
    • 3 stage Grass family that gains Fire subtype in the second stage, possibly peppers?
    • A 2 stage Poison/Fairy line.
    • A 3 stage Fighting line that gains Steel typing in the final stage.
    • Getting in to potential legendaries there’s a Normal/Water, a Fire/Water and an Electric/Water sharing names ending in -atom.  It’s either a trio, or a branched evolution.
    • 2 stage Steel family.
    • Single stage Ice/Fighting Pokémon.
    • Single stage Ground/Fairy Pokémon.
    • 3 stage Dragon line that has a branched evolution that is either part Steel or part Fighting.
    • 3 stage Dark/Electric line.
    • 4 guardian Pokémon, including Tapu Koko each listed as Tapu and with Fairy typing and secondary typing matching Oricorio’s (Fire, Electric, Psychic, Ghost).
    • Third legendary over Solgaleo and Lunaala is Dark/Fire.
    • With Magearna it takes the Pokedex up to 825.

Again, unconfirmed, but we’ll find out more on Friday 8/12.  More Alolan forms are also expected, and possibly more Megas.  This generation looks to be huge.

In light of the Sun and Moon trailer from 8/1, the “leaks” from early in July have been gathering a lot of attention again, in part because of the Grass Trial Captain Mallow appearing in the description for the Litten evolution, and in part because the leaks talked about a lack of traditional gyms, and the bracelet being used for a mechanic similar to but different from Mega Evolution, both of which were confirmed in the trailer.  More information and leaks have been dredged up from that initial leak dump, and further leaks recently, including new Alolan forms as were shown with Vulpix/Ninetails, Sandshrew/Sandslah and Exeggutor.

Added as of yet unconfirmed leaks include:

    • Rowlet retaining a Grass/Flying typing throughout its line, its final form is known as Fukurou
    • Litten gaining a Dark type and only learning Fighting moves.  The final form is currently listed as Tora
    • Popplio’s final form being Water/Fairy and currently listed as Aniku
    • Rockruff having a branching evolution, including one that involves knowing Howl and leveling up or being left by certain locations at night, leading to a werewolf with typing and stats varying on which island it evolved at (not unlike has been confirmed with Oricorio, also mentioned in the leaks)
    • A 2 stage snowman Pokemon with Ghost/Ice typing
    • A normal cat Pokemon, that if bred has a secondary type and color that depends on the father
    • Ash-Greninja appearing in the game
    • Characters such as Blue, Zinnia, AZ, Lance and Cynthia appearing, along with the S.S. Anne
    • More styles for Furfrou, along with the ability to change its style directly in the updated Amie
    • More Alolan forms including Fighting Abra line, Water Growlithe line, Dark Rattata line, Bug/Psychic Butterfree, Poison/Fighting Nidoking/Queen and Fighting/Flying Doduo line
    • Older forms being attainable and breedable through transfer, but not through natural encounter
    • Starters either having a branching evolution line based off of time like Rockruff (Corocoro leaks have stated that the starter and Rockruff lines share a secret) or having the same species name but different stats and design dependent on time of evolution, not dissimilar to the gender dimorphism shown in Meowstic.

Information is to be taken with a grain of salt, but the leaks that the information came from in early July hit a LOT of the points brought up today.  Not confirmed yet, but definitely looking likely.  Can’t wait to see more.

  • Thoughts on the Sun/Moon trailer 8/1

    • NEW POKEMON REGIONAL FORMS CONFIRMED!  Say what you will about the new variants, that they exist at all opens up huge opportunities.
    • Oricorios is a really interesting concept, with regional typing, design and moveset.  Hello Galapagos inspirations.
    • Minior is an interesting new Pokemon as well, always neat to see more alien Pokemon and one that is a sentient meteor with a squishy core definitely fits the mold.
    • Yungoos and Gumshoos being compared to Trump is only going to continue, poor Pokemon
    • Fomantis and Lurantis being mantids but not bugs?  I’m okay with this. Good ability and nice design, with a new attack.  Can’t wait to see how they work.
    • Mudbray is my donkey child and he is precious.
    • Riding Pokemon look to be a much more prominent feature with several areas requiring them to pass.  Given the outfit the trainer wears and the summoning mechanic, as well as the harnesses on all of the ridden Pokemon they could end up being a rental feature that you can summon at will in certain areas.  I doubt it’ll fully replace Surf or other traversal mechanics and will likely be used to open up or traverse certain routes much like it was in X and Y.
    • Island challenge instead of gym challenges?  I’m okay with this.  From the looks of it there are 4 trial captains who will pose a puzzle or challenge of some sort, and likely fight you after completing it, and then the 4 kahunas who will challenge you further afterwards.  Still 8 “gym leaders” but presented in a less traditional way which makes sense for a region that’s so different from the others.  It reminds me a lot of the Orange Islands in the anime.
    • Boss battle Pokemon that can summon help.  Why has this not been a thing before?
    • Z-Moves are interesting, an alternative to Mega Evolution that allows a single use power attack instead of a form change.  Given the slot on the bottom of the bracelet it looks like you’ll be able to get a keystone and Mega stones as well.  Based on the information it looks like any Pokemon can use a Z-Move so long as they’re holding the appropriate crystal and have a move of the appropriate type.  Considering Professor Kukui’s specialty is Pokemon moves this makes a lot of sense, the professors’ specialties are ALWAYS reflected in the mechanic or Pokemon changes introduced in a generation
    • The starter evolution leaks showing Litten as a wrestler got some added support with the introduction of the trial leaders, one of whom can be seen in the art

More information should be dropping during Gamescom towards the end of the month.
