“What’s there to be excited about with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? They’re just going to be Sun and Moon with new Solgaleo/Lunala forms.”
Firstly, we know that the games feature an alternative story set in Alola, and there have already been new/altered locations shown off. How alternative that is is up in the air at the moment, but may be either a completely alternate timeline where characters (and possibly cities/ecologies) are altered, or a story set in the future of Su/Mo much like Black 2/White 2.
Secondly, we know that the games are confirmed to have Pokemon that were not available in Su/Mo naturally. It’s pretty much guaranteed that it won’t be limited to Ultra Solgaleo/Ultra Lunala.
Thirdly, we know that Gold and Silver are coming out on the Virtual Console ahead of USu/UMo’s release, just like R/B/Y came out ahead of Su/Mo and allowed for transfer through the bank, which was announced prior to Alolan forms.
We have 5 months before it comes out, and a lot of opportunity for info to come out. Between the emphasis on it being an alternate story/timeline (coupled with the multiverse aspects that were confirmed in Su/Mo) and the Gold/Silver compatibility, I’m going to guess that we get more Alolan forms, possibly even of Kanto/Johto Pokemon that were in Su/Mo but may have evolved differently in this different Alola.
Patience, time will tell. Worst case scenario is that we end up with the new Black 2/White 2, which I’d say were the best parts of Gen 5.
I have played every version of Pokemon since 1998. Sun and Moon are hands down the most immersive, most in depth, and most narratively beautiful in the series. Absolutely amazing. I just finished Sun, and the first thought in my mind isn’t how long or how good the postgame’s going to be, but that I REALLY want to start up Moon now just to relive the game from a different perspective.
If you don’t have it already, pick up a copy as soon as you can. If you do have a version already, I hope you love it as much as I do.
Sun and Moon leaked early to a few people, and the games have been cracked open and datamined completely, so we now know the typing, stats, abilities and movesets of every new Pokemon, as well as version exclusives.
On top of those already announced by the Pokemon Company, Alolan Vulpix/Ninetails and Turtonator appear to be exclusive to Sun, and Alolan Sandshrew/Sandslash and Drampa appear to be exclusive to Moon.
Heads up! Pokemon Sun and Moon are now available for pre-purchase and download on the Nintendo e-Shop!
As much as I love new Pokemon being introduced in a generation, having a variety of Pokemon available, new and old, is always what makes or breaks a Pokemon game, and that is more apparent with each generation.
I have 0 problem with a generation having less than 100 new Pokemon if it gives a shitload of variety to what you can find from previous generations. With Alola we’ll have upwards of 800 Pokemon to work with after transfer, and personally I think that’s more than enough to keep track of right now.
I understand the desire for more new Pokemon, I do, but there’s a reason that 2nd gen is so fondly remembered, and 5th gen was so poorly received, at least by me.
I love seeing people complain that certain Pokemon in Sun and Moon have evolutions that don’t make sense because their inspirations aren’t the same species as the preevolutions.
Seriously? Do you think that’s never happened?
Next scheduled trailer or news dump for Sun and Moon is 10/14. Corocoro is set to come out on 10/15 and may very well leak ahead of time. The show Pokenchi is supposed to have info on the games and anime on 10/16, and we’re getting a demo version on 10/18.
I am both excited, and afraid. If they can show this much info, how much is in the games themselves? The file sizes have already been shown to be double that of X and Y.
I really hope that the Game Grumps do a playthrough of Pokemon Sun or Moon. And not because Dartrix looks like Arin and Alolan Exeggutor would fit for Danny.
We can expect a gameplay demonstration from Gamescom, and one of these rumors may be confirmed on Saturday 8/21 during Worlds. Here’s hoping!
I for one welcome the coming Alolan Fairy Ring superstition stories.
